A Landsat time series from the 1980 lateral blast onward. The grey fan of the debris avalanche slowly greens as forest returns to the blast zone north of the crater.
What to look for
Pause on the first frame and on the last, and compare the grey fan of debris north of the crater. The colour that returns to it over the years is new forest.
